IS Job Opportunities

As the business world's reliance on computer technology continues to expand, so do the job prospects for information technology graduates. There are a number of ways that one can pursue an IT career. This could mean working for a specific enterprise in either its information systems organization or functioning in an information systems capacity within a user department. It could also be working for a consulting organization or functioning as a sales representative or technical support person for a computer vendor.

The demand for IS graduates continues to be high, and the long-term future of IS professions is bright. Employment opportunities for computer programmers and systems analysts are expected to grow quickly through the year 2010. Opportunities for graduates familiar with technology-based skills that apply to computing, internet-based applications, data and system analyst, database management, and networking and network security, remain abundant. The IDM major provides diverse career possibilities. IS graduates find jobs in virtually every area of business, government, and education, with opportunities in small or large firms involved in regional, national or world-wide trade

Salary Expectations

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the average starting salary range for college graduates with a bachelor degree in IDM is $37,000 to $50,000. With added experience, the median salary range increases to $48,000 to $104,500.
